Public Tour and Observing at SFU’s Trottier Observatory/Science Courtyard.

Sunday - Day 3

Public Youth & family activities in the Hotel ballroom for novice astronomers of all ages.

Monday - Day 4

June 8th, 2020

Extend your stay to take in free optional excursions in Greater Vancouver that are planned for Monday.  Shared group transportation may be arranged if there is sufficient interest.

Sign up for the excursions will open in March after the plans are finalized a bit more so stayed tuned for more info.

Monday Morning – Bird Watching in North Vancouver

Mark Eburne is a RASC Vancouver member and former Centre president. Mark is also the owner of Wild Birds Unlimited and is offering a free RASC Bird Watching group session in North Vancouver,  with a focus on birds of the evening and night.

Monday Afternoon – TRIUMF Tour at UBC

Experience a free RASC group tour of  TRIUMF, home to the world’s largest cyclotron particle accelerator that enables a diversity of efforts in nuclear and particle physics, accelerator science, life science research, and more! Tours last 60 minutes, with time for Q+A and photography throughout. Refer to the lab’s public tour website for more information – https://www.triumf.ca/public-tours

Monday Late Afternoon (Tentative) – Science World – on False Creek in Vancouver

Science World loves it when adults come play.  Come to TELUS World of Science to experience the joy of discovery and to feel like a kid again.

RASC tour details for Science World are still TBD.

Self Guided – ímesh (To Walk) –  SFU Burnaby Campus

ímesh, meaning “to walk” in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh snichim (Squamish Language), is a mobile app developed by the Bill Reid Centre at SFU. It creates stronger awareness of the Coast Salish territories on which SFU is situated, and the Indigenous art on campus, through three walking tours at SFU Burnaby and Burnaby Mountain Park (close to the hotel). The app is currently available for download from the Apple Play story here.
